Proposition J

PROPOSITION J WILL FUND $20 MILLION TO IMPROVE AND EXPAND HOMELESS ASSISTANCE FACILITIES:

  • Only about 40 percent of citizens experiencing homelessness, who receive a federal housing voucher, use them before expiration due to the lack of housing opportunities in Dallas
  • The most significant bottleneck in the city’s homeless recovery system is the shortage of housing opportunities for our citizens most in need
  • Approximately 25 percent of Dallas citizens live in poverty, which means around 325,000 residents are at risk of becoming homeless
  • Permanent supportive and transitional housing provide essential on-site services to assist people suffering from mental illness or other afflictions
